NHS Guidelines

The NHS offer free sight tests for certain patients. You are entitled to an NHS sight test if you fulfill one of the following criteria

  • You are under 16.
  • You are 16, 17 or 18 and in full time education.
  • You are over 60.
  • You or your partner receives Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
  • You or your partner is named on a Working Families Tax Credit NHS Exemption Certificate or a Disabled Person's Tax Credit NHS Exemption Certificate.
  • You have a valid HC2 certificate.
  • You are registered blind or partially sighted.

  • You have been diagnosed with glaucoma, or are considered to be at risk of glaucoma by an ophthalmologist.

  • You are over 40 and are the parent/brother/sister/child of a person who has glaucoma.

  • You have been diagnosed with diabetes.

  • You have been prescribed complex lenses.
